Abstract
597,702. Change-speed gear. COOPER. E. R. C. Aug. 9, 1945, No. 20455. [Class 80(ii)] [Also in Group II] A three-speed driving gear comprises a pulley 29 driving a compound pinion wheel 30 in permanent mesh with three pinions 31, 32, 33 rotatably mounted on a shaft 24 and selectively clutchable thereto by a key 35 slidable in a keyway in the shaft 24 and engageable selectively in keyways 34 in the pinions. The key 35 is pivotally carried by a collar 37 axially movable on the shaft 24 by the operation of a rock shaft 40 carrying a forked lever 39 provided with pads 138 engaging a groove 137 on the collar 37. The latter is retained in any of the three positions by a spring-pressed ball 38 which engages one of three recesses 39 in the shaft 24.
