Abstract

[A Specification was laid open to inspection under Sect. 91 of the Acts, June 17, 1947.] [Class 80 (i)] [Also in Group XXXI] A power take-off suitable for truck transmissions comprises aligned driving and driven shafts 30, 75, Fig. 1, projecting into a housing 12 and having the reduced inner end 23 of the driving shaft spigoted into the enlarged hollow inner end 25 of the driven shaft; a main power take-off gear 21 mounted on ball or like bearings 46 on the driving shaft 30 and meshing one, two, as shown, or more smaller power take-off pinions 100, 101, Fig. 2, for a pump or other drive ; and a clutch member 22 slidably splined on the driving shaft 30 and having teeth 61, 62 coacting with teeth 54, 63 in the gear 21 and driven shaft end 25 respectively. As shown, the clutch member 22 has a central neutral position, so that the driven shaft 75 and take-off gear 21 cannot be simultaneously powered, but the teeth 62 may be elongated sufficiently to mesh the teeth 63 at all times so that the driven shaft is powered whether or not the take-off is in operation. The clutch member 22 is operated by a mechanical linkage 65, 66, 74. In Figs. 4 and 5 (not shown) a bevel take-off gear is used meshing three bevel take-off pinions driving shafts radial to the main shaft line.
