Abstract

662,469. Variable-speed gearing. CLARK, R. March 10, 1950 [March 11, 1949], No. 6752/49. Class 80 (ii) [Also in Group XXX] A two-speed gear particularly applicable to winches is adapted to provide a drive at different ratios in the same direction for reverse rotation of the driving member manually or by a source of power. A high speed ratio from the driving shaft 16 to a winch drum 1 is obtained through a ratchet wheel 20, pawl 19, gear 14 and internal gear 18. A low speed drive is obtained on reversing the rotation of shaft 16 through a gear 15 fixed thereon, gear 21, pawl 24, ratchet wheel 25 and a gear 22 also engaging the internal gear 18, the high speed ratchet pawl 19 over-running. In the high speed drive the low speed pawl 24 over-runs. The gears and the drum 1 are mounted for rotation on a fixed base 2 and a housing 5 secured thereto.
