Abstract

391,316. Winches. TRIGGS, W. W., 57, Lincoln's Inn Fields, London.-(Ingersoll- Rand Co. ; 15, Exchange Place, Jersey City, New Jersey, U.S.A.) May 3, 1932, No. 12774. [Class 78 (v).] In self-sustaining gear of the pawl and ratchet type the pawls 122 are pivotally mounted on a flange 86 of the winding drum 68 and are provided with bushings 140 which are urged into engagement with the brake-drum face 142 by coil springs 138. During hoisting this engagement of the bushings with the face holds the pawls out of engagement with the ratchet teeth on the brake drum 130 against the pressure of the springs 138, and no clicking occurs. If the drum 68 endeavours to rotate in the lowering direction when the drive is stopped, the bushings co-operate with the springs 138 to force the pawls into the ratchet teeth. The drum 130 is held by a brakeband 148, the pressure of which is adjusted by varying the distance between its ends by a right and left-handed screw. The winding drum 68 is driven by epicyclic gearing 94, 88, 99 from a hollow shaft 62 which is driven through gears 60, 46, 44, 42 by a motor-driven shaft 36.
