Abstract
459,276. Winches. JOHNSSON, O., Ostana Glimminge, Sweden. July 31, 1936, No. 21289. [Class 78 (v)] A winch comprises a winding drum 1 loose on a driving shaft 2, internal teeth 10 on a flanged plate 7 secured to the drum being connected through planet pinions 12 with a sun-pinion 11 keyed to the driving shaft. The planet pinions are carried on a disc integral with a housing 15 enclosing a friction-plate clutch 22. One set of plates of the clutch rotate with the housing 15, and the other set are carried by a sleeve 16 loose on the shaft and secured to a fixed bearing 4. A boss 18 having a screw-thread engagement with the fixed sleeve 16, and provided with a handle 17, is adapted to compress the clutch plates into engagement through the medium of a spring 19 and a thrust bearing 20, whereby the planet carrier disc can be adjustably restrained against rotation. The shaft 1 rotates continuously in one direction, the drum 1 being normally stationary, and the drive of the shaft 2 taken wholly by the planet carrier 15. For raising, the handle 17 is operated to bring the clutch plates gradually into full engagement until finally the planet carrier 15 is held against rotation, and the full drive of the shaft 2 is transmitted through the planet pinions to the drum 1. During lowering, the speed of the drum is controlled by the handle 17, an emergency band brake 29, however, being also provided.
