Abstract
867,536. Lifeboat winches. SCHAT DAVITS Ltd. Jan. 20, 1958, No. 1872/58. Class 78 (5). A winch drum 5 carrying the two lifeboat rope falls 7, 8 is driven alternatively by motor 31 or by handle 28 via displaceable shaft 18 and respective one-way clutches 50, 51. These clutches prevent rotation of input shafts 29, 27 whilst the lifeboat is being lowered. One-way clutch 50.-This connects input shaft 29 with hoisting shaft 18. The hoisting drive from motor 31 therefore passes to drum 5 via square-end 29A, input shaft 29 (displaceable by handle 32), one-way clutch 50, hoisting shaft 18, disc 19 fixed on shaft 18, hub 14 driven frictionally by disc 19, and via gearing 13, 12, 11 and 10. In the lowering direction, the weight of the lifeboat drives drum 5 and the speed of lowering is governed automatically by centrifugal brake 16 carried by hub 14, and manually by handle 26, operation of handle 26 causing advance of threaded bush 25 to press disc 19 against hub 14 whilst free-wheel coupling 21 prevents the rotation of the disc. One-way clutch 51.-Alternatively, input shaft 27 is rotated and advanced by the operator using handle 28 so as to make one-way clutch 51, the handle driving drum 5 via clutch 51, disc 19 (which now acts on a clutch), hub 14 and via gearing 13, 12, 11, 10. When motor 31 is out of order, drum 5 may be driven by a deck winch via auxiliary drum 33.
