Abstract

496,682. Friction clutches. HEDGECOCK, S. June 17, 1937, No. 16842. [Class 80 (ii)] A centrifugal plate clutch capable of manual disengagement comprises a plate 6 splined on a driven shaft 5 and interposed between a driving plate 4 and a pressure plate 8 formed with a hub 29 slidable on the shaft 5, centrifugal engaging pressure being applied to the plate 8 through compression springs 12, the extension of which is limited by studs 9, by a disc 10 actuated by weighted bell-crank levers 19 pivotally mounted on a cover 14 secured to the plate 4. The plate 8 can be moved to the right, to disengage the clutch at all speeds, by means of a collar 27 which is engageable with a flange 28 on the hub 29 and which is controlled by a manually-operated fork 26. A rim 21 on the cover 14 limits the outward movement of the levers 19, the short arms 17 of which latter bear against studs 18 adjustably secured in the disc 10. Disengaging springs 25 are interposed between the plates 4 and 8. The cover 14 is formed with longitudinal slots 22 engaged by projections on the members 8 and 10, so as to ensure rotation of the latter with the plate 4.
