Abstract
546,795. Friction clutches. ARMSTRONG SIDDELEY MOTORS, Ltd., and HOLISTER, F. D. July 1, 1941, No. 8258. [Class 80 (ii)] A friction clutch comprises a driven plate 15 splined to a shaft 17 and clamped between a presser plate 12 and an abutment plate 32. The plate 12 is engaged by springs 18 and is withdrawn manually by a fork 23 acting through levers 20. The plate 32 is engaged centrifugally by weighted pivoted levers 40 which act upon the plate 32 through compression springs 44. A stop plate 27 fixed to the flywheel 26 limits the movement in the engaging direction of both plates 12, 32, the abutment 29 on the plate 12 being adjustable. The disengaging movement of the plate 32 is limited by a stop 33. To facilitate adjustment for wear the flywheel has a number of dowel pins 50, Fig. 2 (not shown) which can be moved to clamp the plate 32 against the stop plate 27.
