Abstract

499,589. Friction clutches. BAILEY, R. W. H. July 19, 1937; No. 19930. [Class 80 (ii)] A driven clutch member comprises a plate A, mounted on the driven shaft, an annulus B adjacent to the plate and having riveted thereto a friction facing C, separate springs urging the annulus away from the plate, and blocks D, Fig. 3, secured to the plate and projecting through apertures in the annulus so as to connect the latter for rotation with the plate while flanges E on the blocks limit the axial movement of the annulus. In the form shown in Fig. 2, doubly-bowed radiallyarranged leaf springs G are secured at their centre to the plate, their bowed parts contacting with the annulus. When the clutch is engaged, the flattened springs are accommodated in recesses in the annulus. In the case of a double-faced member, the other facing may be secured to the plate A, or, as shown in Fig. 2, there may be an annulus on each side of the plate. In the form shown in Fig. 4, coil springs K arranged between the two annuli pass through apertures in the plate A.
