[Class 3(i)] In a route or destination indicator of the type having a barrel wound on or off two rollers by reversing the direction of rotation of the operating handle and in which each roller shaft includes a clutch, the clutch comprises a disengageable ratchet mechanism and a peg arranged so as to drive the roller shaft in one direction and permit idle rotation in the opposite direction, the vertical driving shaft of the indicator having a gearbox with a projecting handle freely mounted thereon. As shown in Fig. 1, two gearboxes 1, 1<1>, are secured at the ends of a tie-bar 2 and driven by a shaft 3 from a handle 5 through a shaft 8 and a gearbox 4. The gearboxes 1, 1<1>, Fig. 2, each comprise a helical pinion 9 fixed to the shaft 3 which engages a helical pinion 10 slidably and rotatably mounted on a fixed bush 11 which acts as a bearing for the roller stub shaft 12. The shaft 12 is also journalled in a bush 13 in the gearbox cover and carries a peg 14 which is secured in a position diametrically through it by a flanged washer 15, this pin engaging ratchet teeth on one side of the pinion 10 when suitable rotation of the handle 5 causes the pinion 10 to slide axially under the reaction of its teeth with those of pinion 9. Gearbox 4, Fig. 3, comprises two helical pinions 6, 7, mounted on shafts 3, 8. It can be centrally mounted on shaft 3 in any angular position or may be positioned on an extension of shaft 3 below gearbox 1<1>. The casings of the gearboxes 1, 1<1> are made in two parts doubled together and two of the cover sections are used to form the casing of gearbox 4.
