Abstract
561,071. Toothed gearing. ANDREW, H. J. Feb. 10, 1943, No. 2239. [Class 80 (i)] [Also in Group XXII] Obtaining oscillating-rotary motion.-Relates to means, for use in machine tapping or screwing for periodically reversing the drive to break up ships, such as are described in Specifications 544,611, 543,385 and 534,348, and consists in the employment of a revolving frame mounting two spindles parallel with the axis of the frame. The casing a, Fig. 1, has an anchoring bar c and a pinion d<1> fixed against rotation and concentric with the driving shaft b that carries the frame, the plates e, f of which are connected by two distance pieces (not shown). A pinion n on a stub-shaft m meshes with the pinion d<1> and is connected to a pinion o meshing with a wheel p integral with an elliptical wheel q loose on the spindle i. The train is continued by pairs of elliptical wheels r, s and t, u to an elliptical wheel v integral with a circular pinion w driving a pinion x on the chuck shaft y. In a modification the frame is in the form of a driving pulley through which passes freely an axially movable spindle driven by the final wheel of the train, and in further modifications the spindles such as h, i are crank shafts, the crank pins being connected by links and elliptical gears are dispensed with.
