Class 80(1) [Also in Group XXII] A gear-hobbing machine comprises a cutter spindle f carrying a wormwheel e driven simultaneously by two worms a1, a2, the worms having opposing flanks of different pitch and being adjustable axially as by nuts p, to eliminate all back-lash. The worms are rotated by a motor m driving through change gearing u, bevels k, bevels i, a shaft d, a worm s and wormwheels c1; c2. The latter wheel rotates the worm a2 through an adjustable sleeve j1 so that the worms al, a2 may be adjusted relatively to one another. The wormshafts o1, o2 may carry flywheels and the wormwheels c1, c2 may be replaced by other gearing.
