[Also in Group XXIV] Gearing for driving the reciprocable table 12 of a planing-machine from a reversing electric motor 9, under Ward-Leonard control, comprises a worm 1 on the motor shaft disposed between and driving two worm-wheels 2, which latter are coupled through springs 6 to shafts 3 carrying pinions 4 engaging opposite sides of a double-rack 5 on the table 12. The worm gear 1, 2 is preferably of the high-efficiency, globoidal type.
