Abstract
609,394. Toothed gearing. GENERAL MOTORS CORPORATION. March 13, 1946, No. 7783. Convention date, March 14, 1945. [Class 80 (i)] [Also in Groups XXX and XXXVII] Limit-switch mechanism for controlling an electric motor, [see Group XXXVII], comprises separate intermittently-operated gear trains driven in common from the motor, preferably each through an adjustable singletooth gear. The motor 23 is coupled to a screw-shaft 60 through an electro-magnetic clutch and cycloidal gearing. A worm-gear 59 which forms part of said gearing, engages a pinion 100 which meshes with a gear 108. Single-tooth gears 111 and 117 are adjustably securable to the gear 108 which is mounted on two stub shafts, the ends of which are split and carry within them expander screws 124 and 125, whereby the driving shafts may be coupled to surrounding hollow shafts 109 and 115 carrying the single-tooth gears. The gears 111 and 117 respectively engage gear-wheels 140 and 141, adjacent pairs of teeth of which have the outer surfaces thereof curved about an external centre, the said surfaces co-operating with a concentric surface on the singletooth gears to act as a stopping device for the gears 140 and 141 when the single-tooth gears are not operatively engaged therewith. The gears 140 and 141 are adjustably coupled to cams 133 and 134 which actuate the limitswitches.
