Abstract

589,555. Rotary printing-machines. ROBERTSON, J. Aug. 18, 1944, No. 15806. [Class 100 (ii)] Mechanism for circumferentially adjusting the printing rollers of a rotary printing machine is interposed in the drive between a centre star wheel 1 and each printing roller and includes a driven gear wheel 5a coaxial with a driving gear wheel 8, one or more gear pinions 6 meshing with the gears 5a, 8 and carried by a normally stationary casing 15 enclosing the gears, and an adjusting device consisting of a worm 24 and worm wheel 22 which turns the casing 15 to adjust the roller. The star wheel 1 drives a pinion 3 on the shaft of the gear 5a, this shaft being adjustable axially by means of nuts 31 on a thimble 30. The worm 24 is mounted in the frame of the machine and the worm wheel 22 is fixed to the casing 15. The shaft of the gear 8 carries a wheel 9 engaging a gear wheel 36 on the shaft of the printing roller. The worm 24 may be driven by a small electric motor, or may be operated from the front of the machine through couplings or Bowden wires. Specifications 426,910 and 497,942 are referred to.
