Abstract

730,691. Coiling slivers. TWEEDALES & SMALLEY (1920), Ltd. March 25, 1954 [April 25,1953], No. 11479/53. Class 120(3). In a sliver coiling mechanism, the trumpet, delivery rollers and coiler are given an orbital movement concurrently with the rotation of the coiler, the arrangement being such that the can to be filled remains stationary during coiling. A driving shaft 5 carries a pinion 9 geared to a coiler plate 21 through idler gears not shown and a bevel wheel 27 meshing with a further bevel wheel 27 mounted in a bracket 23 slidably keyed to a shaft 29. The bracket 23 is free to pivot about a tubular extension member 3 along with a casing 1, which supports the plate 21, coiler 44, delivery rollers 33 and driving mechanism for these elements. One roller 33 is mounted on the shaft 29 and carries a sprocket for positively driving the other roller. Also on the shaft 29 is fixed a bevel wheel 55 meshing with a wheel 53 for rotation of the coiler 44. When necessary, the rollers 33 may be upwardly swung so that one lies above the other.
