Abstract

1,094,759. Milling. FUTURMILL Ltd. Feb. 16, 1965 [May 6, 1964], No. 18798/64. Heading B3K. A unit for a machine tool comprises a spindle 5 in a quill 8 aligned with an electric motor 2, which drives the spindle through epicyclic gearing (not shown), and means 18 for moving the quill axially. The motor 2 may be a multi-speed motor and is carried in a casing mounted by means of an extension 4. The quill is advanced by a handwheel driving bevel gearing and rack gearing 16 or by a rapid or slow-speed drive. The spindle is clamped by manually-operated wedges. The motor may be a D.C. motor or a high-speed motor.
