Abstract
455,780. Changing signs. WHITEHEAD, F. P., (trading as WHITEHEAD & CO., F.), 34, Pickets Street, Balham, London. April 27, 1935, No. 9750/34. [Class 3 (i)] In indicators of the type comprising a flexible non-endless display band G mounted on two spring rollers E, F geared together and driven in either direction at will through the intermediary of a toothed wheel D, this wheel gears directly with a pinion on each spring roller shaft and also with a pinion on a roller N having sprocket teeth which engage perforations in the band G at the portion thereof intermediate the rollers E, F. The roller N maintains a constant advance of the band G for a given angular rotation of the wheel D. The wheel D may be replaced by a plurality of gearwheels, two of which may have projections which abut to limit the turning of the direct action knob when the whole of the band has been traversed. A slow-motion mechanism may be applied to one of the rollers E, F, and comprises a knob H<1>, Fig. 4, acting through a friction clutch K and reduction gearing I<3>, I<1>, I<2> and I. When the direct action knob is in use, the knob H<1> is pushed in to release the spring-pressed clutch K, thus lessening the friction.
