658,275. Counting-apparatus. SMITH METERS, Ltd., CHARLES, A., and CHARLES, J. A. May 21, 1948, No. 13886. [Class 106 (i)] The units numeral wheel 16 of a consumptionmeter indicator, or other counter, is driven through a multiplying gear and an intermittent driving mechanism, in order to secure a quick change of indication. In the mechanism shown, a single tooth Geneva driving member 11 is driven at double the speed of the test dial index spindle 1 through a multiplying crown wheel 4 and pinion 5. The driven element of the Geneva gear is a pinion 14 meshing with the units wheel 16 ; it is similar to the transfer pinions between the several numeral wheels and mounted on their spindle 15. An alternative construction with numeral bearing discs, in place of the wheels 16, is also described.
