Abstract

532,857. Water meters. LEEDS METER CO., LTD., MEESON, E., and TYLORS (WATER & SANITARY), Ltd. Sept. 23,1939, No. 26510 [Class 69 (i)] In a water meter for use where water mains are interconnected and the direction of flow may change, the meter is associated with a two dial integrator, one dial registering the flow in one direction and the other dial registering the reverse flow. The spindle 1 drives bevel gearing 2, 3, 4, the gears 3, 4 being fixed to ratchet wheels 5, 6, respectively. According to the direction of rotation of the spindle 1, either the ratchet wheel 5 or the ratchet wheel 6 drives integrator gear shaft 17 or 22 through spring- pressed pawls carried by housings 13 or 19 connected through bevel gears 11, 16, or 20, 21, to the shafts 17 or 22; spring-pressed pawls 23, carried by the gears 16, 21, co-operate with stationary ratchet wheels 25 to prevent reverse rotation of the shafts 17, 22. Other forms of gearing may be used.
