757,594. Reverse- and toothed-gearing. KROMSCHRODER AKT.-GES., G. July 24, 1953 [Aug. 11, 1952], No. 20613/53. Classes 80(1) and 80(2) [Also in Group XIX] A counter, particularly for a gas meter, is driven in the same direction irrespective of the direction of rotation of the driving shaft. Alternatively, one or the other of two counters may be driven according to the direction of rotation of the driving shaft. In one arrangement, Fig. 1, the units drum 2 of a counter has lateral teeth engaged by gears 6, 6a on a driving shaft 1, the gears carrying oppositely directed pawls 7, 7a which co-operate with notches in the shaft 1. In a modification, Fig. 4, a gear 22 on the driving shaft is constantly in mesh with an intermediate wheel 24 carried by links 29 pivoted about the driving shaft. A spring caried by the links bears on the gear 22 and so carries the links round in the direction of rotation of the gear 22 to engage the wheel 24 with a gear 26 meshing with the counter wheel 28 or with the latter directly when the driving shaft rotates counter clockwise. Adjustable stops, e.g. 31, co-operate with the links in the two end positions to ensure proper engagement of the gears. Instead of engaging the wheel 28 in the one direction of rotation, the wheel 24 may engage a driving wheel of a second counter.
