Abstract

1286070 Measuring torque SULZER BROS Ltd 11 Sept 1970 [11 Sept 1969] 43631/70 Heading G1W A device for measuring the torque in propeller shaft 5 comprises wheels 10 and 11 mounted on the shaft, wheels 19 and 14 mounted on shafts 13 and 15 respectively and in driving engagement with wheels 10 and 11, and gear unit 18 which produces a rotation in member 25 in response to relative rotation of the two shafts 13, 15. Shaft 15 carries a sun wheel 20 and shaft 13 carries an arm 21 having a counterweight 22 at one end and a planet wheel 23 at the other in mesh with sun wheel 20 and with internal teeth 24 on member 25. Member 25 has a toothed sector 26 driving a pinion on an indicator shaft 28. A return spring 31 is provided on the shaft. A flywheel 17 is provided on shaft 15. Wheels 19 and 14 may be driven by wheels 10 and 11 by meshing as shown or by chains or toothed belts.
