893,100. Ratchet gearing. CORVISIER, L. R. Sept. 8, 1958 [Sept. 20, 1957 ; June 26, 1958], No. 28721/58. Class 80 (3). [Also in Groups XXVI, XXVIII and XXIX] In a gear-and-ratchet drive for transmitting intermittent rotation to an output shaft 92, Fig. 16, mounted in a fluid container 1, from a continuously rotating shaft 91, an intermediate transmission shaft 60 is sealed (see Group XXVI) where it passes out of the container by a torsion tube 50 secured, such as by welding, at one end to the container and at the other to the transmission shaft. The input shaft 91 is connected to the shaft 60 by a pawl 95 urged into engagement with ratchet teeth formed in a wheel 94 integral with the latter shaft, by a spring 97. The pawl 95 is provided with a projection 95b which, after a predetermined rotation of the shaft 60, abuts a cam 98a, Fig. 17, formed in a cap 99 and thereby disengages the pawl and allows the shaft 60 to return under the torsional resilience of the tube 50. The shaft 92 remains stationary due to the one-way drive of a ratchet 93, and the shaft 91 continues to rotate until the projection 95b rides off the cam surface 98a and allows the pawl 95 to engage another ratchet tooth. The tube 50 may be of metal, rubber of plastics material.
