Abstract

A steering mechanism comprises first and second ring gears 11, 13 which can rotate with respect to each other, a sun gear 3, at least one planet gear 4 positioned between and operatively engaging the sun gear 3 and the first and second ring gears 11, 13, a steering member 9 connected to the first ring gear 11, and arrester means 15 for securing the second ring gear 13 against rotation, the steering mechanism being such that one of the first and second ring gears has at least one gear tooth more than the other ring gear whereby rotation of the sun gear 3 when the second ring gear 13 is secured against rotation by the arrester means causes the first ring gear 11 to effect an angular movement which is transmitted to the steering member and which is a reduced proportion of the number of revolutions of the sun gear 3. <IMAGE>
