Abstract

959,107. Toothed gearing. KOPPERS CO. Inc. May 19, 1961 [May 19, 1960], No. 18351/61. Heading F2Q. [Also in Division B4] A ring gear 31, Fig. 1, meshes with a gear 39 fixed on a shaft 43 which has associated therewith a sleeve 47, Fig. 2, having an eccentric portion 53 on which is supported a pinion gear 67 engaging the internal teeth 65 of an annular gear 59 having external gear teeth 61 meshing with a drive gear 63 fast on a shaft 13. The number of teeth on the gear 67 is less than that on the gear 59. A hand wheel 69 is fixed to a shaft 71 on which is fast a pinion 74 meshing with a spur gear 75 secured to the sleeve 47. When the hand wheel 69 is turned, the sleeve 47 is turnably supported on the shaft 43 to vary the angle of eccentricity of the portion 53 relative to the shaft and effect a corresponding phase shift of the gear 67 relative to the gear 59. This phase shift is transmitted to the shaft 43 and gears 39 by means of coupling mechanism 72 comprising a floating disc 77 having a pair of open-ended radial slots receiving driving studs 81 carried by gear 67 and a further pair of open-ended radial slots, 90 degrees out of phase with the first pair of slots, receiving studs 85 fixed to a driving disc 83 secured to shaft 43.
