Abstract

873,137. Linkwork. DEWRANCE & CO. Ltd. June 17, 1959 [June 18, 1958; April 3, 1959], Nos. 19559/58 and 11439/59. Class 80 (3). [Also in Group XXVI] Means for transmitting motion through a pressure-tight wall 20 sealed by a flexible bellows 32 (see Group XXVI) comprises an intermediate member 3 rigidly connected to one end of the bellows and coupled to the ends of driving and driven members 1, 2, movement of the driving member causing the intermediate member, which is prevented from rotation by constraining means 68, 69, 70, 71, to move in a curved path, the latter movement being converted into rotational movement by the member 2. The member 1, which may be rotated by a spanner engaging a square 47, is provided with a crank-pin 5 coupled to the intermediate member so that, upon rotation of the member 1, orbital movement of the intermediate member is converted by a crank-pin 6 on the member 2 into rotary motion. The intermediate member is prevented from rotation by pins 70, 71, Fig. 2, fixed in a bush 58 engaging in arcuate slots 68, 69, in the intermediate member, the length of the slots being determined by the required degree of rotational movement of the members 1, 2; if complete rotation of the latter is required the slots must be of circular form. In the modification shown in Fig. 4 applied to an arrangement for transmitting power by continuous rotary motion of the members 1, 2 at high speed, the rotation of the intermediate member and consequent torsion of the bellows is prevented by a pinion 90 engaging with an internal gear 80 formed on the intermediate member, the pinion being rotated through a pinion 101 fixed to the member 2 driving gears 94, 95; the number of teeth in the gearing is such as to permit free orbital movement of the gear 80 but prevent its rotation. The member 2 may act as the driving member and the member 1, the driven member. Specification 873, 136 is referred to.
