Abstract
898,037. Toothed gearing. BRENTFORD TRANSFORMERS Ltd. July 13, 1960 [Sept. 15, 1959], No. 31448/59. Class 80 (1). In toothed gearing having a single input shaft 6, Fig. 1, and two alternately-driven output shafts 11, 33 the shaft 11 is locked between its intermittent forward movements and during each of these locked periods the shaft 33 is rotated a few turns, first in one direction and then in the other. The shaft 33 is locked during movement of the shaft 11. The shaft 33 may be used for traversing the contacts of a regulator, the shaft 11 then actuating a switch at the end of each traverse. The shaft 6 carries a gear sector 7 and locking cam 9 co-operating with respective pinions and locking cams on diametrically opposed shafts 11, 15 which are thus alternately driven forwards. The shaft 15 is geared to a shaft 16 carrying a sector 18 and locking cam 19 co-operating with pinions and locking cams on two diametrically opposed shafts 22, 23 which are thus, when shaft 11 is locked, alternately driven forwards. Bevel gearing 30, 31 ensures that the respective shafts 22, 23 rotate shaft 32, which is geared to output shaft 33, in opposite directions. The gear ratios are such that for a cycle comprising four halfrevolutions of shaft 6: (1) the shaft 11 turns once ; (2) the shaft 32 rotates twice in one direction ; (3) the shaft 11 again turns once ; (4) the shaft 32 rotates twice in the opposite direction. The shaft 6 is driven through worm gearing and a handle 2 or a motor-gear-clutch unit 3, 4. In a modification the shaft 6, Fig. 2, is driven by a motor 4 or hand wheel 2 through spur gearing 105 and carries a locking cam 108 and a gear 107 having two single diametrically opposite teeth co-operating with a cam and pinion on the shaft 11 to move it through, say, 45 degrees twice during one revolution of shaft 6. The shaft 6 also carries a locking cam 19 and sector 18 which, through the shafts 22, 23, drives the output shaft 33 alternately in opposite directions, as in the Fig. 1 construction. The cam 19 is shaped to lock the shafts 22, 23 while the shaft 11 is moved. Specification 780,166 is referred to.
