Abstract

900,049. Gearing for converting reciprocating into rotary motion. IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. April 24, 1961 [April 25, 1960], No. 14389/60. Class 80 (1). [Also in Group V]. In a mechanism for converting reciprocating motion into rotary motion for use in apparatus for cutting extruded plastic material (see Group V), the linear reciprocating motion of a rod 15 is applied through a link 16 and crank 17 to rotate a bevelled gear-wheel 19, in engagement with bevelled gear-wheels 20, 21 freely rotatable on a shaft 6 to be rotated. The wheels 20, 21 each has half the number of teeth provided on the wheel 19, and the stroke of the rod 15 is of such length that the wheel 19 rotates through 90 degrees and the wheels 20, 21 through 180 degrees. Each wheel 20 or 21 is also formed with a ratchet tooth for engagement by a pawl (not shown) on a flanged member 24 or 25 secured to the shaft 6. The pawl and ratchet devices are so arranged that during one stroke of the rod 15 the shaft 6 is rotated through 180 degrees by the pinion 20, and during the next return stroke of the rod 15 is rotated through 180 degrees in the same direction by the pinion 21.
