Abstract

922,247. Linkwork for conveying rotary motion; toothed gearing. P. VULLIEZ. Oct. 19, 1960 [Oct. 20, 1959; May 3, 1960; June 27, 1960], No. 35899/60. Classes 80 (1) and 80 (3). In a mechanism for rotating a shaft 9 in a fluid-tight chamber W, a transfer member 12 closing the open end of-a flexible bellows 6 of metal or other material sealed to the chamber wall is gyrated, without rotating, by one or more eccentrically-moving members driven by an external shaft 22 and is coupled to the shaft 9 by crank mechanism or epicyclic gearing. As shown, the shafts 9, 22 are coaxial and the gyrating member 12 has internal teeth 13 epicyclically engaging pinion teeth 10 on the driven shaft 9 which rotates in a fixed sleeve 8 to which the bellows 6 is welded. A pinion 20 on the driving shaft 22 engages three equiangularly spaced pinions 17 integral with eccentrics 16 engaging bores 14 in the member 12. The use of three eccentrics prevents any torsional loads on the bellows 6. The epicyclic gearing 13-10 may provide an increase or reduction in speed. Balancing means and thrust bearings (not shown) for the member 12 may be provided. Alternative drives using two or more eccentrics are shown diagrammatically, in one of which the non-rotatable transfer member which is gyrated round the driven pinion has external teeth.
