Abstract
630,788. Epicyclic gearing. FAWICK, T. L. Oct. 11, 1946, No. 30387. Convention date, March 19, 1945. [Classes 80 (i) and 80 (ii)] In an epicyclic gear the planetary pinions, which are mounted on pins 29 on the driven shaft 15, comprise a toothed sleeve 12a, an inner sleeve 12b, and a compressed rubber-like sleeve 26 in the annular space between the two sleeves 12a, 12b. Oil resistant sealing rings 27 prevent oil contacting the rubber sleeves 26. The sleeve 12b is mounted on the pin 29 by roller bearings 28. As shown, the sun gear 11 is fixed to a driving shaft 10, and the toothed annulus, in two parts 19, 20, is carried in the casing 16 by compressed rubber sleeves 23 which may be grooved on their outer faces. The rubber rings 23, 26, permit slight movement of the toothed rings in all directions. In a modification the rubber rings are located between the pins 29 and the parts that carry them instead of being inside the planetary pinions. The gears are preferably of the herring-bone type.
