Abstract
989,359. Ratchet mechanisms; cam mechanisms; gearing for conveying rotary motion. HOBART MANUFACTURING CO. Feb. 12, 1962 [Feb. 10, 1961], No. 5349/62. Headings F2K and F2Q. [Also in Division G3] A ratchet-wheel 40 is driven in an anticlockwise direction by a pawl 70 pivotally mounted on an oscillatory arm 60 having cam surfaces 90, 92, 93 which are adapted to be engaged by rollers 25 rotatably mounted on a gear-wheel 18, the drive to the gear-wheel 18 being continuous or intermittent through gearing 12, 13, 14. A spring 64 maintains the lever 60 in contact with a roller 25. A spring-pressed arm 75 urges the pawl 70 into contact with the ratchet wheel 40 and has a shoulder 81 which limits the stroke of the pawl 70. A spring pressed pawl 82 prevents back-running of the ratchet-wheel. The device produces controlled acceleration and deceleration of the ratchet-wheel and may be used in a timer mechanism.
