Abstract
395,466. Changing-signs. EQUIPMENT & ENGINEERING CO., Ltd. and SWIFT, H. B., 2, Norfolk Street, Strand, London. April 5, 1932, No. 9755. [Class 3 (i).] In route-indicators in which a display band is wound on and off rollers by an axially movable shaft carrying worm gearing which moves the shaft into engagement with one or the other roller according to the direction of winding, the worms H are made axially movable on the operating shaft G in order to facilitate their meshing with the worms B<1>, C<1> on the rollers B, C. Each worm H may slide on the shaft G under control of a spring H<3> abutting against a collar G<2>, and engage by a widening slot H<2> with a diagonal pin G<3> on the shaft G to rotate therewith except when excessively displaced. The rotary connection between the worm H and shaft G may alternatively be frictional, splined, a ratchet, &c. The shaft G may be driven by power or by a handle J geared to, or fixed on the end of, the shaft G. Spring-pressed brakes on the rollers B, C tension the band D.
