Reel and non-endless web apparatus; optical-projection apparatus, applications of; actuating. - An optical-projection sign for advertising or stationindicating purposes has identical legends &c. on two non-endlees bands 4, 5 mounted side by side on the same roller shafts 28, 29 so as to display simultaneously similar images on two screens arranged on opposite, sides of the bands. Two optical-projectors are located at 8, 9. The bands are moved electromagnetically by a manual switch 51, 52. The armature 13 of the magnet 12 is mounted on a shaft 14 cranked at 15 to carry a pawl 16 engaging a ratchet 17 coupled to the pin member 19 of a Geneva stop. A similar member 34 is connected thereto by reversing gear 32, and the members 19, 34 engage one of two slot members 20, 35 fixed on a sleeve 36 sliding on but rotatable with a shaft 21. The shaft 21 is geared with the shafts 28, 29 and with spindles 26, 27 carrying drums 30, 31 having teeth which engage perforations in the edges of the bands 4, 5. The members 20, 35, may be replaced by a single member, are moved sideways by the armature 40 of two electro-magnets 37, 38 controlled by the switches 10, 11 respectively. The step-by-step movement of the band by the pawl 16 is controlled by a snap switch 43 which alternately energizes the magnet 12 and retracting magnet 46, the switch being operated by the shaft 14. A switch 55 allows for adjustment of the bands 4, 5 when passing intermediate stations. Several apparatus located in different vehicles may be simultaneously operated by connecting cables, and a tell-tale indicator may be provided.
