Abstract
380,579. Changing signs. PARKES, S. R., Pretoria Works, New Road, Willenhall, Staffordshire. Aug. 29, 1931, Nos. 24325, 28694, and 32749. [Class 3 (i).] In display bands wound on and off two rollers the power being automatically applied to whichever is the winding-on roller, according to the direction of rotation of a manually operated spindle, the frames 2a, 2b in which the rollers are mounted are separate to allow of independent attachment and adjustment. Each roller is connected by a separate chain and sprocket drive to an intermediate shaft 7 carrying a clutch 10 which is pressed against one or the other of the sprockets 8, 9, according to the direction of rotation, by pin and inclined slot mechanism. The shaft 7 may be actuated by a spindle 15 with bevel gearing 13, 14 or by a flexible spindle. The bearing 12 for the spindle 15 allows the spindle to swivel through 180‹ when mounted on one end of the shaft 7, or through 360‹ when on the other end, to enable the operating handle to be brought to a convenient position. The rollers are detachable from their stub shafts 4 and are provided with spring brakes 11a, 11b at their other ends.
