Abstract

386,358. Free-wheel clutches. COLLYEAR, J. R., Leverno, Beechcroft Road, Bushey, Hertfordshire, and BAPTY, S. L., 60, Craven Park Road, Harlesden, London. Sept. 7, 1931, No. 25066. [Class 80 (ii).] Free-wheel driving means, more particularly for driving the rolls of a blind serving as a route-indicator on the front of a tramcar or motor-omnibus, comprises a driving shaft b transmitting motion in one direction only to a loosely-mounted gear wheel e through a coil spring f which binds on the boss of the gear wheel and on an adjacent collar c fixed on the shaft b, and is unwound when the shaft b rotates in the reverse direction by an oppositely acting concentric coil spring h fixed at one end k and surrounding a loose sleeve g to which one end of the driving coil f is attached so as to constitute a retarding means. The driven gear wheel e can thus rotate freely in either direction when the shaft b is reversed. One such clutch e, e<1>, Fig. 2, is arranged to drive each roll m, n of a roller blind indicating the route of a vehicle, the clutches being mounted on a common manually-rotated shaft b so that one roll can unwind freely whilst the other winds.
