[Class 3 (i)] [Also in Group XXIV] In route &c. indicators having a display band which is wound backward and forward on two rollers by means of helical gears, the operating members of which are carried by a common driving shaft 1 and the operated members 6 of which are moved automatically to close a clutch connecting the said member to the roller by the normal end thrust of the gear, the clutch which becomes closed depending on the direction of rotation of the driving shaft 1, the clutch device is located within the driven helical member 6. Each stub shaft 8, which is provided with a square end 13 for engagement with the roller, is fitted with dog teeth 10 located between the adjacent ends of two journals 9 which carry the shaft 8. The driven member 6 is fitted internally with similar teeth 12 which engage the teeth 10 when the member 6 is moved sideways to its limit in one direction and are free of the teeth 10 when moved to its opposite limit. The member 6 may bear on the outside of the journals 9, or may run in outer journals 11. The teeth 10, 12 are made narrow to allow of maximum length of bearings. The journal box 5 is in two mating parts for ease of assembly. The outer bearings for the rollers are carried by a plate spring-pressed from a supporting wall toward the rollers, so that the latter can be readily detached for exchange &c. The shaft 1 may be operated directly or through gearing.
