Abstract

667,043. Reversing-gearing. ROLLS-ROYCE, Ltd. Aug. 15, 1950 [Aug. 16, 1949], No. 21350/49. Class 80 (ii). Mechanism for driving an output shaft 12 in one direction irrespective of the direction of rotation of the input shaft 10 comprises a one-way roller clutch 11 between the shafts 10, 12, a layshaft 17 geared to the shaft 10 through an idler gear 15, and a reversely-acting one-way roller clutch 19 between the shaft 17 and a shaft 20, the latter having a gear 13a meshing with a gear 13 on the shaft 12. The gears 12, 13a may constitute the elements of a lubricating gear pump, and splined extensions 12a, 20a of the shafts 12, 20 may carry elements of a scavenge gear pump, the shaft 10 being driven from the reversible propeller shaft of a marine vessel.
