Abstract

461,850. Controlling change speed gearing. ZAHNRADFABRIK FRIEDRICHSHAFEN AKT.-GES. April 17, 1936, No. 11054. Convention date, May 10, 1935. [Classes 80 (ii) and 80 (iii)] Change-speed gearing for vehicles comprises strikers such as 33, 34 which are picked up and operated singly by selector locking rollers 37 38. The rollers 37, 38 are carried in slots 43, 44 in a longitudinally sliding plate 32 engaged by a manual control lever 31. When the lever moves left of the neutral position shown in Fig. 1, the roller 37 is struck down by a profile plate 48 into engagement with a notch 35 in the striker 33 and held there, so that the striker 33 is carried left to gear position. The roller 38 rides idly out to the notch 36 in the striker 34, which is left in neutral. On the return stroke of the lever 31, the striker 33 is carried back to neutral. Continuing the motion picks up and carries the striker 34 rightward from neutral. This causes a gate 50 carried by the plate 32 to slide slots 54, 55 over a fixed pin 51. To use other slots 56, 57, the plate 32 and a supporting plate 39 are slid together laterally relatively to fixed guides 53 by a lateral displacement of the lever 31. The rollers 37, 38 are thus brought into the plane of a different pair of strikers, not shown, corresponding to these other gate slots. An arrangement is described in which the striking movements of the selector rollers are all in the same direction, intermediately pivoted levers being used to reverse the direction of striking of some of the strikers.
