Abstract

996,540. Change-speed control. VAUXHALL MOTORS Ltd. June 4, 1964 [June 20, 1963], No. 24539/63. Heading F2D. In order to give an overall conventional shift pattern at the control lever of a five-speed forward and reverse gear-box in which the fifth ratio is obtained from an overdrive gÚar on a lay-shaft, the striker fork for engaging the fourth and fifth ratios is arranged to move in the opposite direction to its striker rod actuating lug. The arrangement shown comprises three striker rods 10, 12, 14 with conventionally operated lugs 20, 22, 24, the rod 10 for first and reverse gears engaging a lever 44 operating a striker fork 34 slidable on a rail 46. The rod 12 for second and third gears operates directly through a striker fork 26, while the operating lug 24 for fourth and fifth gears engages one end of a reversing lever 28 pivoted at 30, the other end engaging a fork 32 free to slide on the striker rod 10.
