Abstract

406,470. Variable speed gearing. STANDARD MOTOR CO., Ltd., and GRINHAM, E. G., Canley, Coventry. Feb. 11, 1933, No. 4248. [Class 80 (ii).] Each sliding striker-rod 11 of a variable-speed gear is spring-biassed to either operative position from neutral by means comprising a bell-crank lever 20, connected by a pin 14 with the rod 11 and biassed in either direction by a tensionspring 19, connected to a stationary point 18 so as to have a neutral position when it is collinear with the bell-crank pivot 16. The action of the lever 20 may be assisted by a wedge-ended spring- loaded locking-pin 21 acting on inclines 22 on the rod 11 on either side of a notch for neutral. The device is applicable to those change-speed gears in which the striker-rod moves a key engaging an inclined groove in a cone clutch member screw-threaded on the gear-shaft.
