Controlling variable-speed gearing. - The change-speed gear lever A is operated from a distance by means of a rod B which can slide and rotate in a ball-and-socket joint C. The positions of the rod B corresponding to the different gears may be indicated on a plate J, or a finger K on the rod may work in a " gate " in the plate J. In a modification the rod B may rotate and slide in fixed bearings, an arm with a socket on the rod engaging the ball-end A<2> of the gear lever.
