Abstract

444,495. Change speed mechanism for vehicles. YOXALL, J., York House, Deganwy, North Wales. Sept. 25, 1934, No. 27493. [Class 80 (ii)] [See also Group XXXI] A control lever 1 for change-speed gearing upon a vehicle is formed with a compartment 13 which is adapted to house an electric lamp 14 which moves with the lever beneath a plate 7 provided with apertures or translucent panels 9, 10, 11, 12 each in a definite gear position, the compartment 13 serving to shroud the lamp so that the latter can illuminate one aperture or panel at a time only. The lever 1 is fast to a gear-changing spindle 2, Fig. 1, which is journalled in a sector-shaped box 3 secured to the steering- column 5 beneath the steering-wheel 6. The box 3 has the plate 7 for a cover. A spring- pressed ball 15 clicks into a recess in the plate 7 as the lever 1 comes into a gear position with the lamp 14 below one of the panels, which is the only one to be illuminated, and which carries a numeral or letter indicating the gear in use. The lever 1 is shown in Fig. 2 in position for reversed driving, and a pivoted reverse stop is shown at 16. Specification 440,650 is referred to. According to the Provisional Specification, the sector box 3 is illuminated as a whole and the control lever 1 carries a mask which exposes only the appropriate panel for each position.
