Abstract

612,261. Controlling change-speed gears. LEA-FRANCIS CARS, Ltd., and RIDLEY, J. C. May 22, 1946, No. 15463. [Class 80 (ii)] A two-plane gear-shift lever 15, carried on an offset pivot 17 on a selector-shaft 22 which can slide and turn in a bracket 21 fixed to a vehicle steering-column 12, effects axial gearselection movement of the shaft 22 by fulcrumming at its free end 14 in a groove in the fixed bracket 21 as the shift lever 15 swings in a vertical plane, and turns the shaft 22 for gear-establishment by swinging in a horizontal plane, the free end 14 then sliding in the bracket-groove. The shift-lever 15 has an extension 16 movable in a slotted gate 26 to indioate which of the four-speeds and reverse is effective. The selector-shaft 22 operates the change-speed mechanism by means described in Specification 612,260.
