377,030. Controlling motor vehicles. HURTH, C., HURTH, H., HURTH, F., HURTH, L., and SCHIEFELBEIN, D., (trading as HURTH, C.), 19, Holzstrasse, Munich, Germany. Oct. 15, 1931, No. 28691. Convention date, Oct. 20, 1930. [Class 79 (v).] In motor vehicles having power shafts 1, 2 at right-angles -to the direction of travel, the gear control lever 9 is movable in a gate slot 8 longitudinally of the vehicle, as usual. The control movements are transformed in direction by bell-crank levers 7 disposed one on each side of the gate 8. Each lever 7 has an arm 11 extending towards the control lever 9, a pair of striker arms 12, 12<1> engaging a clutch 3 or 4, and a quadrant arm 18. Lateral movement of the ball lever 9 engages that lever at 13 with the ball end of one of the arms 11. Movement of the lever 9 longitudinally in the gate 8 then turns the selected lever 7 to move the selected clutch 3 or 4 to one of its gear positions. Locking is effected by detent pawls 21 springing into notches in quadrants on the arms 18.
