[Class 80 (ii)] In a vehicle change-speed control, wherein a depending gear-shift arm 42, Fig. 5, is controlled from a steering-column lever 14 through independent cross-shift and gear-establishing cable or linkwork control-circuits 18, 17, Fig. 1, a shiftplate 38, Fig. 5, slides in fixed longitudinal guides 40 in the change-speed gear casing 16 to impart gear-establishing movements to the gear-shift arm 42, which latter, for cross-shift selection movements, is slid in transverse guides 47 in the shift-plate 38 by a cross-shift block 28, which slides in a longitudinal guide 44 on the shift-arm 42 so as to guide the latter longitudinally during the gear-establishing movements of the shift-plate 38. The cross-shift block 28 is carried on a bell-crank 26 operated through the control-circuit 18, the shift-plate 38 being operated through the circuit 17, both circuits being operated from the lower end of a shaft 13 which can slide and turn parallel to the steering-column 12 and is actuated at its upper end by the shift-lever 14, if desired in the manner described in Specification 612,261. Bodily axial movement of the shaft 13 operates the cross-shift controlcircuit 18 through a bellcrank 21, Fig. 2, whilst turning movement of the shaft 13 operates the gear - establishing control-circuit 17 through an arm 31 splined to the shaft 13.
