Abstract
527,437. Variable-speed gearing; fluid-pressure servomotors. BENDIX AVIATION CORPORATION, and CLEVELAND. F. J. (Bendix Aviation Corporation). April 5, 1939, No. 10661. [Class 80. (ii)] [Also in Group XXIX] In a fluid-pressure operated gear-changing mechanism for an automobile a cross-shift crank 34 is operated by Bowden mechanism from rotary movement of a selector knob 46 on the dash while the main-shift crank 104 is operated by a piston 78 controlled by a valve arrangement 72, 74, 120, 122. An actuating member 68 for the valve is operated through Bowden mechanism 64 from longitudinal movement of the selector knob and unseats either of valves 72 or 122 controlling a vacuum supply through conduits 88, 90, 92 to one side or the other of the piston which " follows-up " the movement of the valve actuating member 68 to effect the gear-change through the tubular rod 102 connected to the crank 104.
