Abstract

616,900. Controlling change-speed gearing. SOC. ANON. A. SAURER. Sept. 18, 1946, No. 27989. Convention date, Feb. 9. [Class 80 (ii)] Control of a fluid pressure operated changespeed gear clutch is by a control member 9 actuated by the engine clutch pedal 1 pivoted at 2 and carrying pins 4, 5, 6 to which are connected rods 12, 7, 28 respectively. Rod 7 actuates the engine clutch and rod 12 is connected to a lever 10 integral with control member 9 by a disc 14, initially stressed spring 16, cylinder 13 and a rod 11. The control member 9 is rotatable in a casing 8 and has a milled-out portion 18, the position of which governs the flow between pipes 21, 22 connected to pistons which effect a change of speed. A detent 27 on a lever 25 pivoted at 24 is urged into engagement with a shoulder 23, on the lever 10, by a spring 26. The upper end of the lever 25 is attached to the rod 28 which by means of a slot 29 has lost-motion connection with the pin 6. As shown, the engine clutch is engaged. On initial depression of the clutch pedal 1, the spring 16 is further stressed, but the lever 10 is held by the detent 27. When the lost motion between the slot 29 and pin 6 has been taken up, the engine clutch is completely disengaged, and further depression of the clutch pedal 1 causes disengagement of the detent 27 from the shoulder 23 and the control member 9 snaps into the position to effect a gear change.
