[Class 80(ii)] A fork 1 for shifting a cycle chain from one pedal sprocket to another is secured to a sleeve 3 which is slidable on a squared spindle 9 and which has radial projections 4 engaging helical grooves in a surrounding flanged sleeve 8 secured to an operating lever 21, so that, as the sleeve 8 is rotated, by movement of the lever 21 in the plane of the cycle frame 15, axial movement along the spindle 9 is imparted to the sleeve 3 and fork 1 to shift the chain. The threaded end 11 of the spindle 9 is secured to the frame 15 by a clip 14. A spring washer 12 acts to hold the lever 21 in any position. A pin 22 on the fork 1 serves to restore the chain if it falls off the sprocket.
