Abstract

862,614. Change-speed control. JOHNSON (MACHINERY) Ltd., C. H. Aug. 21, 1959 [Aug. 21, 1958], No. 26891/58. Class 80 (2). To prevent accidental establishment of reverse by rightwards sliding of a selector rod 2, Fig. 1, in a change-speed gear controlled by a ratio-shift lever 18, the end 10 of a plunger 9 is biased by a spring 13 into the path of the selector rod unless a spring-steel &c. handle 17 is pulled upwards by an operator simultaneously with actuation of the ratio-shift lever, to which it is adjacent. Alternatively, the handle 17 may be mounted upon the ratio-shift lever 18 and be connected by a Bowden cable to the plunger, which latter may be actuated by a turning or pushing, rather than a pulling, motion. The device may be applied to gearing for dumping &c. vehicles, or for machine tools.
