Abstract

875,310. Change-speed control. DAIMLER BENZ A.G. Feb. 18, 1960 [Feb. 18, 1959], No. 5779/60. Addition to 875,309. Class 80 (2). The electrically-operated change-speed gear described in the parent Specification is so arranged that upon initiation of a gear change the main clutch is disengaged and held so until the change has been completed. The main drive shaft 4 has an extension 8 carrying a lever 9 which, upon operation of the drive motor 5, acts through a telescopic link 10, 11 to move the main clutch members 12, 14 to the disengaged position, and at the same time a suction servo unit 17 is operated by a rod 16 to hold lever 12 in position, a venting valve 18 having been closed by a switch 19 operated by a pin 22 on lever 9. When the gear change has been completed lever 9 returns to its original position with free extension of telescopic link 10, 11 and switch 19 is operated to open valve 18, thus enabling the main clutch springs to effect re-engagement, with the return of members 12, 16 to their initial position. In this arrangement the slipping clutch 7 is fitted on the main drive shaft 4.
